Europe since 1789 (HSTEU 303) explores the history of Europe from the crisis of the old regime to the present. A ten-week course can't be comprehensive, so we use specific episodes to illuminate themes and concepts. These episodes include: the European Old Regime; the French Revolution, the Napoleonic Wars, romanticism, the creation of Germany, European empire, the Russian Revolution, fascism, feminism, the world wars, Nazism and Nazi-occupied Europe, the liberation of Europe, the construction of the European Union, the place of Europe in a post-European age.
