Catalog Description:
Examines the field of Southeast Asian studies through a theoretical and historiographical introduction to modern Southeast Asian history and culture. Surveys nationalism, colonialism, modernity, and cultural memory through recent scholarship on Cambodia, Indonesia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Laos, and Vietnam. Explores how scholars rethink area studies and expand the boundaries of Southeast Asian studies. Offered: jointly with JSIS A 580.
