Drawing from contemporary experiences of COVID-19, examines the history of global pandemics and epidemics to understand why and how empires, nations, and peoples have responded to infectious disease outbreaks in radically different ways. Critically analyzes epidemics as a social phenomenon. Explores colonialism, historical methods of investigating disease, and global health through prisms of inequality, gender, and race.
