Biography

M.A., University of Washington, 2023

Ragya Kaul is a PhD candidate in the History Department at the University of Washington. Their dissertation project traces the journeys of Punjabi women who travelled to the United States and Canada in the four decades before World War II. Through a feminist reading of South Asian migration, they seek to understand how migrants, especially women, navigated and challenged gendered and racialized dimensions of British and American imperialism. Their research argues that women’s overlooked reproductive and care labor was crucial to diasporic anticolonial struggle against British colonial annexation of South Asia.
