Graduate Students Working Towards a More Democratic Society

Department of History, Doctoral Candidate Michael Aguirre

Big Congratulations to Michael D. Aguirre, who was just awarded a prestigious fellowship from the Center for Engaged Scholarship, to continue work on his dissertation.

The fellowship is designed to support graduate student research into topics that promote a more ‘democratic, more egalitarian, and more environmentally sustainable society.”

Aguirre’s work looks at the Eastern California borderland of Imperial County, California and Mexicali, Baja California, as a site to explore class, citizenship and labor activism from 1964-1979 - a period which saw a shift from Keynesianism to Neo-Liberalism in the global political economy.

We can’t wait to read it!
