Preserving Past Voices.

Submitted by Emma R Hinchliffe on

Ask a historian why history matters and I'm sure many would tell you that one of the most important things they do is unearth and preserve the voices of individuals, groups, and community’s that may have otherwise been marginalized or lost.

Josue Estrada, a graduate student in the Department of History has been doing just this for the voices of Seattle workers as part of the team behind The Labor Archives of Washington.

Founded in 2010, this archive, which is part of the Univesity Libraries Special Collections, is not only a depository for their voices but also a rich resource for anyone interested in the history of labor in the region.
